We were supposed to wake up to a rainy day and plan to head to the aquarium in the afternoon after home school but lucky us it was a mix of overcast and sun. Perfect day for a hike and if you’re going to hike you might as well hike something to remember, Lion’s Head…
Missing his class at Elysian
But before that we had another day of home school. Oh boy do those 90 minutes feel long at points but there are flashes of rewarding moments and hopefully those only become more common as we keep with it. Ollie getting to write letters to his family and friends to share his adventures makes him excited to write which is nice to see.
Now onto the hike! We arrived at the parking area for Lion’s Head where the attendant suggested the boys were too little to get to the peak, obviously you can tell how this goes…
Ollie was rolling from the first step with zero complaints and his confidence only grew with each step. Lenny was the opposite, 2 minutes in asking for a piggy back ride that would never come. If anything today we learned how to play to Lenny’s strengths, marshmallow power boost breaks and making him the group leader, aka the boss. Lenny was off!
The hike got more intense, partially by our choice, but there was only one way to the very top and that was where we were going.
You guessed it!
Made it to the top of Lion’s Head!
Ollie was excited to sing happy birthday to his mountain Uncle AJ at the peak so that was the only order of business before we headed down since we were in a cloud at the peak.
The trek down was tough. It started to rain and the rocks were slippery plus Lenny’s legs were not long enough for the big jumps down. It took a lot of help for him to do the steep rocks but we made it down, 4.5 hour total hike time. And no day would be complete without some jumps in the pool before dinner and bed.
