The boys had lost any TV time for the last few days but today they were up early and we couldn’t go outside yet since the sprinklers were on. Ollie has been asking a lot of questions about Greek mythology so TV time was kids YouTube videos explaining Greek mythology. They were happy with it and it was pretty interesting though it did lead to even more questions!
Then we moved on to fighting ghosts in the backyard followed by home school. Lenny tried to turn a bathroom break into a secret nap outside on the couch. Ollie wrote a letter to Uncle Arnie for his birthday. Then it was off to the main event of the day, a hike!

We drove to a hike Kayleen found called Elephants Eye, the eye is a massive cave. It was less intense then Lion’s Head but the idea of a large cave and using their headlamps had both boys jacked up to do it. Total time, ~3 hours.
Lenny need his normal motivation, to be the leader and power-up snacks. Kayleen brought little cookies that looked like the mushrooms from Mario Brothers which were a hit. The boys were off.
The beginning of the hikes have been the worst part because they are mostly walking on flat trails. Once we get to the parts where it is more challenging or there is a good view their attention is captured.
Ollie was either talking or singing songs from Hamilton to himself the whole time.
There were large rocks throughout the hike that we said looked like moon rocks so the boys would scream “moon rock” whenever they noticed one. No real creature sightings on this one, just grasshoppers and one lizard.
No real injuries other then a few scraps on Lenny from one fall and some roots sticking out that rubbed on his shin.

One the way down the boys were moving a bit slow at times so Kayleen said “less talking, more walking.” This was repeated by Lenny the entire way down, though sometime he would say “more talking” by mistake. He also declared this was the best day of his life and that he loved elephants ear. Both really nice things to hear though if he felt wronged at any point during the trip ride home he would quickly declare this to be the worst day ever. We have seen this before…
The hike got the better of Lenny in the end as he needed to be carried in from the car. He quickly recovered and was out playing soccer in the backyard with Ollie and Martha.
Kayleen and I got a night out without the kids! Martha stayed late to let us go out to a yoga class and then to a nice dinner. Oh was it nice to have a meal without the kids. We went back to the Kloof Street House and sat at the bar for dinner. Made it home as the kids were getting into bed.
